I discovered Julie Shephard’s first CD (Completely and off the floor), browsing through some lists of "the best 20 of…". Then I couldn’t resist buying the second one as well (a much earlier production, Into the green), even if it was just a demo with only one new song. And then I got the third cd… Now I’m waiting impatiently for the next one, and the one after that too… Julie’s music is fascinating: it captures you and doesn’t let go. Her songs have enchanting melodies and a very pure sound. Her voice is extremely sweet and powerful: it strokes and grips you, taking you to heights and depths. And her lyrics make you dive into a world of poetry, a whirlpool of images which stirs thousands of emotions and, at the same time, stills your heart… into the green, as one of her songs says. You can find in her music the dimensions of the past and the future, of an intense and intimate present. You can colour her songs, like her paintings, and her songs colour your soul and your life. Her DVD (It is not a perfect life) touches upon old and new emotions; you see her playing her guitar and reciting her poems. You feel her like in a winter night, next to a fireplace. Julie has such a beautiful voice. Breathy yet delicate, sexy yet vulnerable and so passionate. Song after song beginning from Box Of Shelter are filled with great lyrics and catchy melodies. It's tough to pick out the best tracks on this album as they are all excellent. Hear The Sounds rocks followed by the sweet ballad Love, What Am I Doing Here. War Of Words hits home to those who have lived through them. Rain is just plain beautiful and so real. I have awakened in the middle of the night with the lyrics and melody of Afraid to Love in my head. I highly recommend this CD. Thanks for sharing your music with us Julie! Raymond Steiner

From the hauntingly beautiful beginning to Translucent Blue to the inspirational simplicity of My Everything, augmented by the poems, this DVD touches on our collective search for understanding our life and our place in the world. They may be a collection of random thoughts, as the artist said in her introduction to the poems, but they are bound together by her need to reflect on love, life, nature, relationships. These songs need to be not only listened to, but understood in the context of our own experiences. Julie's accomplished vocal talent and emotional performance make that easy for us.
After listening to a couple of mp3s, I bought this CD. What an awesome record.
She's very talented musically and visually artistic as well.

Listening to you during the Lucy Montgomery Festival in Norval with my children was the most memorable parts of "Pre-Christams" for us that year. My daughter was mesmerized as was I.
